Bowery Block
Building 184, Selid
Din
Name Origin - Bowery means a
shady, leafy recess or arbor…A shady resting place in
a garden or park, often made of rustic work or latticework on which plants, such
as climbing shrubs or vines, are grown. The block was named as the soil was
especially rich and the center block was surrounded by Trees on all sides which
took quickly. It was named by Brian Estograd, as a
offhanded comment during construction for these reasons, and the name stuck.
Appearance –
Overall, the Bowery block conforms to the norms of the blocks in general. Some
construction was done in the far northeast corner for the
Shield
Knight Patrols -
As with all parts of the Selid-Din, the
blocks are individually managed by the block Sheriff but have a liaison to the
larger city. The liaison for the Bowery Block (and several surrounding blocks)
has been assigned to Thaddeus Puresword. Thaddeus is
actually of a minor noble family with a questionable reputation. While the
truth is more complicated, it has caused much heartache with Thaddeus. He was
sent to Selid-Din as a bit of a puishment
but found his niche in life. Those he protects and serves no nothing of his far
away family issues and he is seen as a more open Shield Knight as he does seek
to keep peace and find answers. He is well known by those in his blocks and has
a solid relationship with all the Sheriffs. The Minister f Defense would
promote him except for his issues which is fine with Thaddeus anyway. Thaddeus
has a girlfriend in the Little Avalon that carries his bastard son (Yr 19).

Here is the Syd Cantor (Expert – Level 3) who is the
manager of the block and a minor judge of internal matters to the block. Most
often any problems with the block that are minor in nature are pled to the Land
Lord and they determine the issue. While matters may be escalated to “official”
authorities, the Magistrates prefer smaller matters be resolved internally to
the city blocks.

Elixir Connundrum
This large portion of the outer and inner is dominated by the
Alchemist Prospero and his labs. He was freed by King Aranath
from the Leprechaun King when Propero unwisely dealt
with him to learn the secrets of the Philosophers Stone. Alas, the Leprechaun
King tricked Propsero and he was trapped for
thousands of years. He is from another time and formerly served the High Queen
of Britannia (wherever that is). King Aranath won him
in a card game and freed him. Prospero does a good business with Elves but
prefers to live with his own kind due to the bad effect of the faerie time he
spent.
The shop is roughly designed after Page 39 of the Experts Book. A
listing of the Alchemical offerings is also there for sale.

Mage from the Faerun Shadow, hiding here while he
gathers his power.
Matre Familias supports him
completely and they have as much love as LE can have for each other. King and
Queen are their pet names for each other. Mother is 18th and has a SHITLOAD of
magic items. All slots filled. They are brutal couple and exacting and a challenge
for any PCs if they chose. But they are
all about Mind Blanks and hiding while they experiment on their sons..
Experiments - Their progreny is
their test dummy. They actually don’t care for them much and they are a means
to an end. They plan on using a series of Greater Simulcrae
magics to clone their sons and daughters AFTER they
max their stats with wishes and drugs/potions. But to achieve the right balance
of potions they are using their oldest, Khan. Hisr brothers
and sisters are all receiving top grade spells and defenses. Khan is the lab
rat they test them on first.

Note:Your parents are WAAYYY to smart to get caught
by the party for a LOOONG time. But your parents will have a shot at the Throne
if they are allowed to continue. That’s for a high level Khan dungeon in the
future. Lawful Evil. I am also figuring they are making a strong power play for
the Halruiian Throne and are planning on using their
brood (you may have a larger family than u think!) to create a super-race of Jordain who can counter the mages effectively. They come
from Lawful Neutral backgrounds…they just both wanted power and quick. The
taste of magic overwhelmed their better judgment. Now they want it all.
Tavern: Janiks Watering Hole
This small pub is located just inside the Auxiliary entrance and
they serve only residents usually. Outsiders must have a friendly reaction or
there will be some hard times. The bar is inset in the wall and has 3 small
tables and a bar that can server patrons outside and inside (it can be boarded
up) with no seats but enough room for 20 (or more in celebrations). Janik also supplies all the parties for Bowery block.
Janik is an Elf who is trying
to learn some things from Cosby. He has a son, Es-Janik
who is ½ elf. His mother died in the Dark Times. They don’t like Halflings much

Residence: Cosby Family Tower
The
Cosby Tower was a land grant by the First Citizen to one of his oldest and
first servants. The Tower has a variety of protections (low level MU and high
level Druid!) and spans all 3 floors as well as a private basement.
Well
Pristine water that taps into the underground river that flows beneath Selid-Din. There is a community bucket as well as 2 permanent Unseen Servants to haul water for the elderly/children.
Gardens
The common area has several patches of vegetable gardens as well as Properos prize Rose Garden with the gardener Rosie. The Roses are fenced off and a Shambling Mound acts as the grass ("Keep off the grass!"). He will not attack (initially) but Bulls Rush anyone away from the flower.
Rosie the Flower (Druid 5th) - Rose is a awakened flower (rosebush) who
has been taught the druidical arts. She was a gift to Cosby who in turn made it
a gift to the Bowery. She has been granted the Gift of Tounges and all her
spells are focused on plants/gardening. The Shambling Mound will follow her
commands as her Animal Companion. She often gives advice on planting, gardening
and lifes wisdom in general. She is a personal favorite of the First Citizen
and he will be wroth with he who harms Rosie!
